February 13, 2009 ~ Friday: “Tory Jack Day” for the students of the Robert Morris School in South Bound Brook, Joe Becton, guest speaker. (Not open to the General Public). February 14, 2009 ~ Saturday, 11 am – 4 pm “Tory Jack Day" Legend has it that Jack, a slave in the Abraham Staats household, supported the patriots by spying on the British during the American Revolution,. Our February program focuses on African-Americans and the Underground Railroad in the Civil War era. This year's program will again feature speaker Joe Becton and will take place at the Abraham Staats House. February 15, 2009 ~ Sunday, 10:00am - 2:00pm "Middlebrook 5 Generals' Headquarters Bus Tour" Five historic houses that served as headquarters for American generals during the 1778-1779 Middlebrook encampment are all on this tour. The Van Horne House in Bridgewater; the Wallace House in Somerville; the Van Veghten's home in Finderne; the Abraham Staats House in South Bound Brook; the Jacobus Vanderveer House in Bedminster. Also in conjunction with this event, we continue our "Lecture Through Time" series with Wayne Daniels: "The Approaching Storm" Kels Swan: "A Map of the First Middle Brook Encampment" Arthur S. Lefkowitz: "When Artwork Speaks: Eyewitness Images From the American Revolution" Admission charged for entry to house tour/lecture Make sure you tell your friends to hold the date, Huzzah! Canal slide presentation, living history Civil War re-enactors, music, exhibits and collections of Civil War era artifacts will be featured. October 10 & 11, 2009 ~ Saturday: 10:00 am to 5:00 pm & Sunday: Noon to 5:00 pm "Somerset County's Weekend Journey through the Past" .
