Abraham Staats House Miscellaneous

In early 2006 the Abraham Staats House had much needed repairs to main windows and doors, including the Bull's Eye Glass Dutch Door; masonry work (steps/porches/foundation), chimneys re-pointed, and the roof, the new wood shingles looks wonderful. Also, Alicia the painter has did a great job stripping and painting the exterior. We look forward to starting the next round of improvements. The house is looking great, if you have a chance to go by you will most likely be pleased!

Awards Abraham Staats House $169,000 in Historic Preservation Grant. Accompanied by SBB Historic Preservation Advisory Commission president Dennis Quinlan and FASH Board member Brian Faulks, I had the pleasure and honor of attending the Somerset County Cultural and Heritage Commission (SCCHC) awards presentations this Tuesday. South Bound Brook was awarded a grant for $169,000 to continue the renovations in progress on the Abraham Staats House. The grant money will go largely for interior work, including floor stabilization, repointing of fireplaces, continued door and window renovations, and electrical upgrades, as well as some exterior work on shutters and masonry. It was a thrill to receive the "check" (a big cardboard check we will display in the Borough Hall) and even more of a thrill to know that much needed work on the house will continue! A round of applause to Kathy Faulks for pulling together the grant application process and meeting the deadlines! Thanks to the Somerset County Board of Chosen Freeholders and the Somerset County Cultural and Heritage Commission for this funding, with special thanks to Historic Preservation planner Tom D'Amico.
