February 29, 2024 @ 2:30 pm – 4:30 pm
Abraham Staats House
17 von Steuben Lane
South Bound Brook, NJ

Join us to honor the life of Henry (Harry) Staats, an enslaved individual in the Staats household, with the ceremonial laying of a Witness Stone in his memory.

The Friends of Abraham Staats House, Inc. was awarded a “New Jersey Historical Commission Inclusive History Grant” for 2023. With those grant funds, we partnered with the Witness Stones Project, Inc. to research enslaved persons associated with the Abraham Staats House historic site and provide our local school with the instructional tools and information to implement the Witness Stones Project curriculum in the classroom.  We’ll conduct an outdoor ceremony starting at 3PM, for installation of the commemorative Witness Stone. After the outdoor ceremony (about half hour) we’ll return inside, so folks can have some refreshments, tour the house and socialize until close at 4:30PM.
